Step 1. Don’t panic.
Step 2. Start drinking lots of fluids NOW. And chop up some garlic and down it in a spoonful of honey.
Step 3. Call in reinforcements. A babysitter. Your neighbor. Your parents. Friends. Anyone who is down for the cause.
Step 4. Go to bed immediately after they get there. Even if they are just relieving you for an hour. No matter what time of the day it is. SLEEP. If you are lucky you might actually wake up healthy.
Step 5. Entertain the baby with minimal effort: lay her/him down/sit him in his Bumbo/prop him up with lots of pillows/etc….with a large pile of toys. While you drink more fluids and eat. Eat the garlic + honey again.
Step 6. Entertain her/him some more: doorway jumper, exer-saucer, bouncy chair. WHATEVER YOU HAVE. While you drink more fluids and eat.
Step 7. Repeat step 6. Outside, in the shade. Bring yourself a cup of tea. Close your eyes.
Step 8. Marvel at how the baby is actually pretty good at entertaining her/himself for a while. Ahhhh.
Step 9. Repeat everything!
p.s. careful with the raw garlic – if you are nursing it could give your baby gas.
Things to have on hand:
- new toy/s that will be exciting for the baby
- tea + lemon
- Herbal Immunity
The bright side of being sick with a baby is they at least take some naps…? Maybe?
Ok, well. I’m sick. Wish me luck.
